Group Outline
Riva Group is formed by several companies operating in the iron and steel production
industry and its related activities.
It is the outright leader of the sector
in Italy, the 4th in Europe and 21th in the world.
This position has been attained over half a century and is the result of a watchful
expansion policy put in place by the acquisition of a large number of companies,
the main one being the privatization and take over of ILVA from IRI
Group in 1995.
Currently
the Group owns 35 production sites: 18 are located in
Italy where most of the steel (over 61%) is currently manufactured and about 68%
of the turnover is achieved; the remaining are located in Germany, France, Belgium,
Spain, Greece, Tunisia and Canada. In addition,
Riva Group operates 26 Service
Centres and Trading Companies.
The Companies of the Group cover all stages of the steel manufacturing process,
from the production of liquid steel (by both integrated-cycle and electric-furnace
technologies) through hot and cold rolling, to the manufacture of high value added
coated products with special finishes.
In 2010, the Group produced 14 millions tons of raw steel, 6.1 of black coils,
3.8 of wire rod, 1.9 of concrete reinforcing steel, 0.9 of rolled bars and billets,
0.8 of quarto plates.
Core steel production
is complemented by side and synergistic activities such as maritime logistics
(by means of its 100% owned fleet operating 12 units among which 8 innovative ocean
barges, 30,000 DWT and 16,000 DWT capacity each and displaced by four powerful “tug
pushers” deserve to be highlighted), the recovery of scrap (one plant in Canada
and one crushing plant in France), the production of refractory materials (four
Riva factories in Italy) and the production of rolling cylinders (with one dedicated
factory in Italy).
The total workforce adds up to 21,895 permanent employees with
an increasing number of skilled profiles with either academic or technical school
backgrounds as it is demanded by the ever evolving best practices in industry and
advancements in technology.
The Group serves almost the entire range of steel-market segments both in the E.U.
and on global scale, particularly the automotive, white-goods, construction, welded
pipes (both onshore and offshore transportation) sectors which originate increasing
requirements of high technical standards to be met.
The development policies adopted by the Group Management are being pursued with
the highest consideration of how industrial activities do interplay with their hosting
environment, always seeking to achieve in operations the highest scale
of integration with the diverse social and economic local contexts.
The Group, 100% owned by the Riva family, is chaired by its founder Eng. Emilio
Riva, leading the business with his sons and nephews, who fill managerial – and
quite often interchangeable - key positions.
